The Office of Sponsored Programs supports faculty and staff in securing and administering sponsored research and projects. Reporting to the Director of Sponsored Programs, the Associate Director will play a key role in promoting academic excellence by supporting faculty research and other strategic initiatives that align with the University’s Holy Cross mission and vision to be a destination university for a more just world.Strong oral and written communication skills-including listening skills-are essential, as is the ability to organize/prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects. Tact and creativity will be invaluable.For consideration, the candidate must meet the qualifications below:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Three or more years of demonstrated responsible experience in the administration of research and sponsored projects, preferably in a higher education context.
  • Experience in budget development/basic accounting required.
  • Some applied knowledge of compliance requirements (i.e., Uniform Guidance 2 CFR Part 200), as well as understanding of policies and procedures of various government funding agencies.
  • Applicants with CRA (Certified Research Administrator) designation desired, but not required.
  • Ability to read and interpret grantor guidelines for proposal preparation and compliance.
  • Knowledge of sponsored programs administration and reporting, including experience with online grant submission systems and some facility with project budgets.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, including ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and facilitate collaboration among diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills, including a collaborative and proactive approach to working with internal and external stakeholders, accessibility and timeliness in responding to inquiries, and an ability to clearly communicate grant preparation requirements to faculty and staff.

Essential Responsibilities Include:

  • Identifying possible funding opportunities; Providing guidance regarding proposals development; Reviewing proposals and contracts for accuracy and conformance with regulations/guidelines; Assisting with proposal submission; Providing guidance on award contingent clarifications and budget adjustments; Providing a smooth transition into post-award grant administration.
  • Assisting the Director in preparing reports and related communications on funded programs, activities and initiatives of the university; disseminating applicable policies and procedures; and providing recommendations on policy updates/changes.
  • Contributing to the maintenance and further development of OSP internal systems and procedures.
  • Assisting with the delivery of grant-writing workshops and trainings for faculty.
  • Other duties as assigned.
