Come join us!Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Roadway construction testing and inspection, document control, reporting, and assisting the Engineer as needed.
  • Performing tests both in the field and laboratory for concrete, hot mix, soils and aggregates.
  • Complex and routine construction inspection of roadways and materials to ensure compliance with construction contract specifications.
  • Contract document control and reporting, including field measurements, calculations, and computations.
  • Performing materials tests both in the field and laboratory for concrete, hot mix, soils, aggregates, and other materials.
  • Assisting the Project Manager or Project Engineer, as needed.
  • Leading and training other inspectors in conducting inspections.
  • Other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

RequirementsMinimum Requirements:

  • 20 years minimum experience in highway construction inspection and materials testing
  • Experience managing project inspection, material testing, and environmental compliance
  • Able to provide oversight, lead a team of inspectors, and communicate staffing needs to PM
  • Experience training inspection staff and ability to develop SOP for in-house inspection and testing protocols
  • Must have a proven history of working well with contractors and owners to accomplish construction tasks
  • Proficient in providing work zone traffic control and ensuring a safe work zone
  • Proficient in inspection of earthwork and roadway base construction
  • Proficient providing inspection of hot mix asphalt and concrete paving operations
  • Experience with inspecting drainage structure construction
  • Experience in the installation and relocation of utilities
  • Must have considerable knowledge and experience working with concrete, soils, base and asphalt pavements
  • Proficient reading and comprehending plans, specifications, shop drawings, and test procedures
  • Proficient in providing contract administration and field reporting
  • Assist with and prepare contract modification documents (change orders), review of RFIs and Submittals
  • Proficient at handling record keeping duties in conjunction with recordkeeper and project manager
  • Proficient communicating with PM, staff, contractor and other stakeholders
  • Conduct project meetings with contractors, project teams and other project stakeholders
  • Must have good driving record and a valid driver’s license

Technical Requirements:

  • Must have experience using Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Must have experience using a PDF software such as Adobe or Bluebeam.
  • Must have experience using SiteManager.
  • Must have certification or be able to quickly obtain ACI Field, ACI Strength, LVL1B, SB102 and SWPPP.
  • Knowledge of TxDOT specifications is preferred.
  • Experience reviewing and providing input for critical path scheduling.

Other Miscellaneous Qualities:

  • Must relocate to the San Antonio, Texas area
  • Must be willing to work either day or night shifts
  • Must be willing to work weekends
  • Must be willing to transition from field testing and inspection duties to laboratory testing responsibilities as needed
  • Must be willing to work “off hours” when needed and up to 60 hours per week as needed
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
