Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus five (5) years of related work experience in general construction and maintenance, land management or infrastructure investigations, and inspection, including four (4) years of experience in storm drain construction, rehabilitation, or maintenance.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
Valid Texas Driver License.

Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver License and required endorsements within 120 days of hire, as required by position.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position is part of a team of Drainage and Operations Maintenance (DOM) Coordinators that are responsible for responding to a variety of service requests related to the maintenance of drainage infrastructure, such as flooding, erosion, vegetation, inlets, and pipes. The DOM Coordinator is expected to prioritize 311 requests for inspection, research issues, and provide customer service and documentation of the final resolution.

ESSENTIAL STATUS:
This position has been designated as an Essential Employee position. In the event of a city-designated extraordinary situation or emergency condition, essential employees provide services that impact the public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of members of the Austin community and other employees, as well as ensure the continuity of essential operations. Essential Employees may be called back in during such events, required to modify their schedule, assigned to a City-designated work site, or retained on-site to assist with operations and recovery.

Verification of education will be conducted on the top candidate.

Monday – Friday
6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

May require working outside of normal business hours as dictated by business needs. In addition, the work schedule may change to a rotating shift during weather events. Must be agreeable to accepting on-call assignments, which might result in a call-back to work.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience inspecting or maintaining multiple types of storm water infrastructure.
  • Experience identifying native and invasive plants.
  • Experience working with contractors.
  • Experience using Maximo, ARCGIS, or another asset management system to enter data and research relevant information.
  • Experience with asset management systems.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Assists in the planning, directing, coordinating, and review of the work of crews engaged in the construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of storm drain infrastructures.
  2. Performs required field investigation, site preparation, resource planning, review of traffic control needs/plans; conducts utility notification for excavation; and ensures utilities have been properly marked.
  3. Assists with the scheduling and coordinating of daily operations; instructs work to be completed and reviews progress; coordinates requisition and controls materials and supplies; and works with engineers and other department personnel on planning projects.
  4. Tracks and requests needed permits to ensure appropriate agencies are notified (e.g. Right-of-Way Permits, TxDOT, etc.); coordinates with traffic control contractors to ensure a safe work zone for crews.
  5. Enters and closes out work orders; makes updates as needed.
  6. Reviews citizens’ complaints or concerns; facilitates prompt and efficient investigations of problems and potential solutions; provides recommendations for resolution to superintendent.
  7. Assists with drafting specifications for purchase of additional or replacement equipment.
  8. Assists with preparing monthly and annual performance measure reports.
  9. Operates multiple specialized heavy equipment and conducts advanced skills training on the safety and operations of specialized equipment such as haul rig with low boy trailer, brush truck, walking excavator, Vactor truck, volumetric cement/concrete truck, gradall truck, and crane truck as required by position.
  10. Acts, as necessary, in a supervisory capacity in the absence of the supervisor.
