Created by healthcare, for healthcare, we have a dedicated focus on our people and customers, as well as providing tools, processes, support resources, data analytics and insource strategies that drive results.The Manager Construction is responsible for the direct supervision of Construction Project Managers, ensuring the implementation of all Medxcel Planning, Design, & Construction projects. The Manager must communicate with Facilities Management Regional Directors and Health Ministry leadership to ensure successful coordination and completion of all construction projects. The primary focus will be ensuring the overall effectiveness of facilities’ design and construction and their alignment with mission and strategy of Ascension, Medxcel, and the Health Ministries. The candidate and his or her team will model all aspects of professionalism with emphasis on establishing the system’s productive role in significant capital projects.This position is located at Asc Seton Cove Offices – Austin, TX. Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes and directs all activities related to staffing, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions and continuing education initiatives.
  • Prepares project budgets and ensures compliance with allocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable statutory, regulatory, and administrative requirements relative to departmental operations and ensures departmental compliance.
  • Works closely with direct reports on scope of projects to ensure quality delivery of all projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to approach issues, identify alternative solutions, make recommendations and present them in an easily understood manner.
  • Conducts plan review for major capital projects in alignment with the Ascension Design and Construction Standards.
  • Reports risks/issues and key metrics to Medxcelleadership.
  • Defines the contract parameters for each project within the standardized contract template and clearly communicate to direct reports and preferred partners around these expectations.
  • Act as the primary liaison for all regional external professional service and construction firms. Review applications for contracts and ensure all service firms and construction managers meet Ascension standards on conduct, safety, and operating procedures.
  • Communicates effectively with Health Ministry Leadership, Medxcelleadership, Regional Directors, Project Managers, and external firms responsible for project work. Maintains relationships with the customers of Medxcel PDC including System Office, Health Ministries, and external vendors.

Qualifications:Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Business, Project Management or related field required
  • Master’s degree in relevant field preferred

License/Certification:

  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Certified Healthcare Constructor preferred
  • Certified Associate in Project Management preferred
  • Project Management Professional preferred

Experience:

  • At least seven years progressively responsible experience in construction, maintenance, or facilities required
  • At least 10 years of healthcare experience preferred
  • Experience managing associates in a matrix reporting structure preferred

  • Planning/organizing – prioritizing and planning work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to communicate across all levels of the organization, including technology, tools, and processes
  • Experience and proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Excellent leadership skills, including ability to manage associates in a matrix reporting structure
  • Critical thinking skills – demonstrated ability to approach technical design and construction issues, identify alternative solutions, make recommendations, and present them in an easily understood manner
  • Decisive judgment – ability to assess situations or circumstances and draw sound and objective conclusions
  • Accountability – ability to take responsibility for action and results
  • Ability to delegate tasks, follow up on assigned tasks and report on progress of work
  • Ability to train others on technical components, applicable regulations, and internal procedures
  • 25-50% travel required
